Can I still make a purchase if I don’t have enough funds on my card?

Since this is a pre-paid card, you can only use the amount of funds you have available on your card. If you create a negative balance on your card, you are responsible for the negative balance. Some merchants can run a split-tender transaction (see below), which allows you to pay a portion of your purchase with your card and the remaining balance with another form of payment.

What happens if my card is declined?

The merchant may have attempted to process the purchase for a greater amount than what is available on the card. If this happens, you should ask the merchant to run a split-tender transaction (see below), which allows you to pay a portion of your purchase with your card and the remaining balance with another form of payment.

What is a split-tender transaction and how does it work?

Depending on the merchant's policy, you may be able to apply the balance on your card toward a portion of the purchase price, and then use another form of payment to pay the remaining balance. This is called a “split-tender” transaction because you would be splitting the final transaction amount between your card and another form of payment. Before you request a split tender transaction, you will need to know the available balance on your card. Then, you must ask the merchant if they accept more than one form of payment for a single purchase. If so, request the card value be used as the first form of payment, and then pay the remaining balance with whatever additional form of payment they will accept. Some retailers will only allow a split-tender transaction if the second form of payment is cash or check. Online and most mail-order merchants do not permit split-tender transactions, and we cannot guarantee any specific merchant will accept multiple forms of payment.

Can I use my card at restaurants?

Yes. However, keep in mind that it’s common for service-oriented merchants to automatically factor in an additional percentage (often up to 20% over the purchase price) to cover any gratuity you may choose to leave using your card. Before paying with your card at a restaurant or similar business where gratuities are customary, make sure your card's available balance is at least 20% greater than your total bill, or ask if they will accept a split-tender transaction.

How do I use my card at hotels and car rental agencies?

Like restaurants and other service-oriented merchants, hotels and car rental agencies may automatically factor in an additional percentage to cover incidental charges you might incur. The additional amount varies by merchant. To prevent your card from being declined, we suggest you check with the company about their policy when making your reservation.

Can I use my card at ‘pay-at-the-pump’ gas stations?

You can use your card at automatic fuel dispensers. However, Visa® sets a $75 limit on such purchases. This limit could remain on your card for several days. To prevent any potential card declines, we suggest that you pay for fuel inside the service station.

How do I get my current balance or a list of my transactions?

Your current balance and a list of all your transactions are available at gocardservices.com, or by calling customer service at the number on the back of your card. To receive your transaction history online, you must first create a profile and add your card to it. Note: the website will only display completed transactions, not pending ones.

What if my card is lost or stolen?

If your card has been lost or stolen, contact customer service at 800-827-6557. We recommend that you keep the phone number in a safe place for future reference. You will be able to speak to an agent and request a replacement card. Your account will be assessed a $5 replacement fee.

What can I do if there is fraudulent activity on my card?

If you notice transactions on your account that you didn’t make, contact customer service immediately at the number on the back of your card. They will follow their standard dispute procedure and investigate the fraudulent transaction.
